On a whim last Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. we decided to jump into the car and whiz down to Cape Schanck lighthouse half an hour away.
Easier said than done – we nearly didn’t get to see the lighthouse because the closing time was at 4 p.m. and Milo decided to stall us by running out of the house as we left, prompting 15 minutes of hunt-the-terrier and then when we were halfway there, Finn decided to stop the car and have a leisurely poo at the side of the road. Ah the pleasures of having small animals in the family.
One of the best things about the countryside is that when you’re potty training the young ones, you can literally pull over anywhere along the road and enrich the soil there. Well again, it’s a nice thought in theory but it doesn’t always work when your toddler is screeching that SOMETHING IS TICKLING HIS BOTTOM! and that he DON’T KNOW HOW TO SQUAT!!!
Anyway we made it there in the nick of time and got the last tour of the lighthouse. There was a huge vat of 50kg of swirling mercury at the top of the lighthouse and we were warned to avoid the fumes if we were sensitive to such things, but you know we’re already mad so it didn’t make much of a difference. Goo goo g’joob.
